hello-smlChristine Lovatt

The English language has the largest vocabulary of any language which is not surprising when you think that it is made up of Celtic, Germanic, Latin, Viking and French languages, not to mention all the words borrowed from Africa and Asia.
English is now the everyday speech of more than four hundred million people around the world. No other language has such a plentiful supply of descriptive terms, making the art of expression so much more accurate.
Yet there are times when you just can’t find the word you need to describe a feeling or a situation. That’s the beauty of having a good knowledge of vocabulary, being able to give a subtle nuance to a meaning.
Every now and then I will hear a word being used in a different context which gives me a new way of cluing that word in a crossword. If I’m lucky, I’ll have a pen and paper on me, so that I can write it down before I forget it.

Happy puzzling!
