hello-smlChristine Lovatt

Most of us know someone whose life has been affected by cancer. I have received many letters over the years from puzzlers who have found comfort in doing crosswords throughout their own or their partner’s chemotherapy treatment, when a lot of time is spent waiting in hospitals for tests, results of tests or for the drugs to be given. To receive these heartfelt letters from you during such a difficult time is extremely touching.

As a positive gesture of support to those who are living through or have lost a loved one to cancer, Lovatts is donating 20c from each issue of BIG Crossword 212 to the McGrath Foundation to help fund training and employment of specialist breast care nurses.

The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by Glenn McGrath and his late wife Jane in 2005 after Jane’s initial recovery from breast cancer. The foundation aims to raise money to place breast care nurses in rural and regional areas across Australia as well as educating young women to become breast aware. Jane’s vision was for every woman diagnosed with breast cancer to have access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse and the foundation is continually working towards achieving this goal.

The McGrath Foundation supports two scholarships for students to undertake either a Graduate Certificate or a Post Graduate Diploma in Breast Care Nursing at La Trobe University. This enables nurses with an interest in this field to further their education and qualifications.

One in nine women in Australia will develop breast cancer before the age of 85 and the number of men developing breast cancer is also increasing.

Just by purchasing this puzzle magazine, you have contributed to this wonderful charity but if you’d like to find out more, please phone the McGrath Foundation on 02 8962 6100 or go to www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au.

Happy puzzling!
