hello-smlChristine Lovatt

Every year I say I’m going to get on top of Christmas chores before they get on top of me, by dispensing with most of them. This year, I plan to go back to a simpler Christmas. I’ve said this before, but this time, it’s going to happen. Cards and presents will be kept to a minimum, so will food and decorations.

Maybe we won’t even have a tree? No that’s going too far!  But we’ll try to remember the message – good will to all men – not forgetting the women and children.

I’m determined to spend Christmas Eve like many of you do, relaxing by the tree, admiring the pile of beautifully wrapped presents, perhaps handing round a plate of homemade mince pies and a cup of tea or a glass of wine. At that stage, I’m usually dashing around the shopping centre buying last-minute presents. Good will is all very well until you desperately need that last spot in the carpark, that you’ve been queuing up for, when some upstart drives up and steals it. That’s when good will seems to evaporate, so I shall be avoiding those stressful situations and soaking up the serenity of the season.

I wish you all a serene and hassle-free Christmas and a calm but puzzling New Year.

Happy Christmas!
